LOCAL LITERACY RESOURCES
Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans
http://www.literacygno.org/ – local organization that provides program information about adult literacy programs and workforce development in the Great New Orleans region. Literacy AmeriCorps members are serving as tutors or teachers literacy provider programs part of the Literacy Alliance. There information may be accessed here too. If you look on the home page in the lower right hand corner, click on Hazel’s Literacy Lagniappe, which links you to a blog with weekly literacy tips.


NATIONAL LITERACY ORGANIZATIONS
National Institute for Literacy (NIFL)
http://www.nifl.gov/ - federal agency that serves as a national resource and provides leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth, and adults.

The Partnership for Reading

National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) - http://www.ncsall.net/ - dedicated to improving practice in educational programs that serve adults with limited literacy and English language skills, and those without a high school diploma. NCSALL is a leader in designing innovative professional development programs and in building support for research use.

U.S.A. Learns
http://www.usalearns.org/ - A free ESL instructional program developed primarily for immigrant adults with limited English skills. The site offers practice in listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills as well as life skills necessary for success at work and the community. U.S.A. Learns can be used independently by learners or under the guidance of a tutor or teacher.

Marshall Adult Education (Reading Skills for Today’s Adults)
www.marshalladulteducation.org/ - Excellent website with an enormous amount of helpful information ranging from leveled readings, technology, scope & sequence of NRS levels of adult education, resources (that include activities for ESL students), family literacy, workforce education and citizenship just to name a few. This site is a MUST to visit if you are working with adult learners.
